There are quite a number of beaches on the Maltese Islands. Ghajn Tuffieha, Mellieha, St. George's Bay, Paradise Bay and Pretty Bay being but a few. In Gozo, Marsalforn, Ramla l-Hamra and Xlendi are both beautiful and picturesque beaches. Malta also has a large National pool in Gzira, that is open to the public. Originally built for the small nations games, it is great for training whilst on holiday.

In general, the Maltese coastal waters are clean and safe for swimming as there are no tides. Some bays are exposed to north and north-easterly winds which do produce some strong undercurrents at times.
